Support Our Work

Preventing suicide and depression, and working with families and communities affected by these outcomes are central to our mission. Led by Drs. Richard Liu and Taylor Burke, or team is working to understand what puts youth and young adults at risk for suicide and depression, and to build better tools to support them when they are needed most. We aim to understand the processes that drive vulnerability and resilience, develop new methods to understand who is at risk and when, and translate this knowledge into real-world interventions that save and improve lives.

What we are working toward:

  • Giving individuals, families, and clinicians the knowledge to recognize warning signs when it matters most

  • Uncovering what makes some people more vulnerable and what helps others recover

  • Developing prediction tools that provide a critical window for intervention before a suicide crisis emerges

  • Turning research findings into prevention and interventions that reach people who need them most

Suicide is the second leading cause of death in youth and young adults, and depression is the second leading cause of disability worldwide. Federal funding alone cannot keep pace with the urgency of these concerns. Advancing this work depends increasingly on private support.

Your gift directly supports postdoctoral researchers, and projects developing innovative tools and technologies, and clinical studies that would not be possible through federal funding alone. We also welcome conversations about how your support can be directed toward the areas that matter most to you (contact Dr. Liu or Dr. Burke).

We invite you to join us in our mission.
